Description
The project was to improve the existing subway system in Sofia in order to provide improved urban public transportation services for patrons, as well as to alleviate future traffic congestion.
The project comprised two components: (i) management consulting services and (ii) engineering consulting services. The management component involved review of the existing financial and institutional situations of the Metro authority and its related agencies, and then the provision of recommended improvements and the implementation of the improved system operations. The engineering component included a close review of engineering design of the existing and planned extension sections, preparation of tender documents for civil works, evaluation assistance for contractor selection, construction supervision, and test run on the extended section. Careful attention to underground cultural heritage was given during tunnel civil works.
