Tourism in South Africa grew rapidly with a 37% increase in income between 1994 and 1998. However an increasingly competitive tourism marketplace has faced South Africa faced with the need to formulate comprehensive marketing strategies. A consortium lead by PADECO Co., Ltd. Was retained to realize the following objectives; 1) formulate a tourism promotion and marketing strategy with the purpose of generating a Japanese and East Asian tourism market for South Africa, 2) formulate tourism development plans for certain focus areas, including investment plans and feasibility studies for priority projects; and 3) transfer skills and technology on tourism development through the Study.
