Description
The Tourism Resources Improvement Project (TRIP) aimed to alleviate poverty and contribute to peace in Sri Lanka through promoting the tourism sector by increasing the number of Asian tourists, especially Japanese tourists, to the country. TRIP consisted of five major components: (i) strengthening of marketing and promotion; (ii) support to human resources development; (iii) improvement of essential infrastructure and facilities; (iv) awareness raising of local residents towards tourism through collaboration with NGOs and CSOs (civil societies); and (v) tourism consulting services. The Special Assistance for Project Formulation (SAPROF) was conducted to: (i) examine project contents and implementation structures in detail, (ii) propose a sustainable operation and maintenance structure, and (iii) formulate an implementation program for the TRIP program.
