BOP Study for the Development of Sustainable Rural Road Maintenance with Do-Nou (Soil or Sand Bag) Technology

Client Name Japan International Cooperation Agency
Country Ghana

Description

Feeder/rural roads are vital for the socio-economic development and the well-being of rural communities since they provide access to markets, schools, clinics, jobs, neighboring communities, and higher-level roads. Spot improvement with Do-Nou technology, developed in Japan, which repairs muddy spots on feeder roads by installing sand bags as a base-course of roads, is a simple and low-cost labor-based technology method that almost any community can carry out. The study aims to develop business models maximizing the use of local resources including unskilled workers and materials through donor, government, and private funds.
