Social Assessment of Bulgarian Railway Restructuring

Client Name The World Bank
Country Bulgaria

Description

The railway restructuring process has been causing negative impacts on stakeholders, particularly existing and former railway employees. The project assessed the existing situation of such stakeholders by: (i) conducting interview surveys, (ii) providing recommendations for improvements to the railway operating agencies, and (iii) also implemented a workshop to discuss the results of surveys and analyses.

Interview surveys were conducted with current and former railway employees and railway users. The results of surveys were analyzed with particular attention to the former railway employees who were believed to be negatively affected by the restructuring process. Legal rescue measures were considered and proposed for the improvement on the next step of restructuring.
